Hacienda del Monte-Pelado is an recreative establishment in Desert Island, owned by a grobo. The hacienda is divided in three different areas: a bar, a patio and the saunas. There's a ladder behind the bar leading to the roof, where there's a telescope aiming to a little island, and an old wiseman enchanting a snake. To access the roof, Twinsen has to enter the female sauna, and when the owner leaves the bar to kick him out, he can access the ladder.
The steambaths were painted by a Rabibunny (perhaps Mies van der Rooh). Many Wizards visit it to have a drink. The hacienda is used by the Esmers to buy the Twinsunians drinks and invite wizards to Zeelich and has a secret passage to the secret base they built under the Bald Mountain.

- Owner
- A Grobo with a French accent; he considers chummy the Esmers who buy drinks for everyone, even the wizards. He is very careful to keep the women's steam baths off-limits. He will run there when someone enters it and scold Twinsen (strangely, if Twinsen talks to him in the patio, he will ask "What have you learned?").
- Asked about the School of Magic, he will say that he didn't even know there is one on the island.
- Asked about the Wizards, he says he has seen some haning around the patio or the steambaths.
- Wino
- A drunk Quetch sitting with a Rabibunny (perhaps Mies van der Rooh) very positive that the aliens are buying drinks for them.
- Asked about the School of Magic, and later the Wizards, he will suggest to ask Mr. Wiseguy sitting on the terrace.
- Esmer
- A Sup tourist in the Patio. He is responsible for inviting Wizards to Zeelich.
- When Twinsen wears the Wizard's Parade Tunic, he mentions a "top secret" exchange program for Wizards, inviting him to discover their science and civilization in exchange for Magic knowledge; warning not to mention to the School of Magic because "they would not understand" yet. He then guides him to the men's steam bath, activates an elevator, and takes a sewer raft to an Esmer Shuttle.
- Sphero bather
- A Sphero in the Patio, saying that the heat in the Turkish baths brings him hallucinations, seeing wizards everywhere.
- Asked about the School of Magic, he says that it mustn't be that far, as the Wizards pass by the Hacienda with the Esmers.
- Asked about Wizards, he says that if they lower the temperature, he would be willing to go see them.
- Grobo bather
- Found in the men's baths, he enjoys the heat.
- Asked about the School of Magic he is surprised to hear about one. He is sure it's not there, as he is visiting every day.
- He says he has seen several Wizards pass by but doesn't notice where they are going as they disappear.
- Lady bathers
- A Grobo and a Rabibunny ladies in the women's bath. They are shouting when Twinsen enters the bath, and call for help. They hit Twinsen if he approaches them.
Trivia[]
- "Hacienda del Monte-Pelado" means "Bald-Mountain Estate" in Spanish.
- If Twinsen hits the basket of the snake of the wiseman, it will fall to the floor and free the snake.
