Jerome Baldino (or just Baldino) is an eccentric Grobo inventor.
In LBA, he lives in a house in Proxima Island. Twinsen helps him with an invention, the Proto-Pack, after which Baldino lends it to him to test it out.
In LBA2, Baldino lives in a house in Desert Island, and he plays a much bigger part in the story.
At first he tells Twinsen that although he is observing the Emerald Moon, he noticed very few Esmer ships coming from there, suggesting that they live in the other side of the moon. Later, asked about the School of Magic, he is surprised that there is even one, as he isn't going out much.
Both Twinsen and Baldino have a radio in their homes. When Twinsen talks to him through the radion in the basement his home, Baldino says that next time they meet, he will provide him with the Portable Radio, and that he will finish the new Proto-Pack soon. After he gives him the Portable Radio, he is then seen upstairs working on his desk.
While Wizard Twinsen is "invited" to Zeelich, Twinsun is invaded by Esmer forces. Baldino travels to the Emerald Moon in his spacecraft, but not before sending his Proto-Pack to Twinsen by post. He uncovers the Emerald Moon Base and Dark Monk's plan to destroy Twinsun. He calls Twinsen on the Radio and tells him to join him immediately, saying that he can steal an Esmer Shuttle from the Esmer Base of Desert Island (Holomap update).
In the Moon Base he is held in a cell with a Franco Technician dissident and they are soon rescued by Twinsen; they explain that, in order to fulfill Dark Monk's prophecy, gigantic thrusters have been installed on the moon in order to destroy Twinsun; as they are indestructible, the only way is to destroy their controls on Island CX (if Twinsen hasn't got a Translator already, Baldino provides him with one in order to understand the Franco).
- Flees with Twinsen to Zeelich where they crash land
- Upgrades the Proto-Pack to Super Jet-Pack using the Can of GazoGem which he also needs to repair the ship
- Miraculously saves the children of Twinsun in the Dark Monk's Statue
