The portable radio is an invention of Jerome Baldino. It allows its user to talk with another person who has a radio and is within range.
When Twinsen gives the Car Part to Zoé, she tells him that Baldino called and told her that he forgot to give him this radio; whenh Twinsen uses the radio in the basement of his house, Jerome says that if he passes by, he will handle him the Portable Radio. Indee, when Twinsen goes to Baldino's house, he gives it to him.
During his adventures, Twinsen is contacted by Zoé and Baldino several times thanks to this invention.
- As soon as Twinsen exits Baldino's house, Zoé says that she fixed Twinsen's Car and she is bringing it to the Desert Island.
- When Twinsen returns to the Citadel Island from Zeelich, Zoé calls him to their house to tell him the strange things that happened.
- When Twinsen claims Sendell's Ball and is ready to exit the Citadel Island sewers, Baldino calls him from the Emerald Moon, warning him that the Esmers want actually to destroy Twinsun, and that they should meet; for that Twinsen must steal an Esmer Shuttle from Desert Island (Holomap update).
