A translator is a device that allows its user to understand the language of the Esmers (and talk to them back).
Without one, everything said in their language is seen (and heard) as gibberish. The only ones that can be understood are the talking Sups in Twinsun.
There are a few opportunities to get a translator:
- on the lower deck in the Esmer Shuttle that initially takes Twinsen to Zeelich
- in the Otringal Prison
- in Otringal Astroport's Control Tower
- in the Esmer Shuttle at the alien base in the Desert Island
- finally, if Twinsen hasn't picked one yet when he rescues Baldino at the Emerald Moon Base, the latter will give one to him
